This file contains important information regarding the use of
ShapeShifter. The sections currently present are:
I. PKZIP 2.x Users and ShapeShifter versions earlier than v1.8
II. Auntie Sysops Beware When Updating the DIR

I. PKZIP 2.x Users and ShapeShifter versions earlier than v1.8
A bug surfaced in versions of ShapeShifter (prior to v1.8) due to a
new feature in PKZIP 2.x. Older versions of ShapeShifter kept the
working directory around when converting archives with nested
archives in them. This caused PKZIP to store a zero byte directory
entry in the ZIP when path support was turned on (i.e. the default
when using ShapeShifter).
Due to this bug, files converted with nested archives (and
ShapeShifter set to convert the nested archives) will contain a ZERO
Byte directory entry of S_S (Again this is *ONLY* if a version prior
to 1.8 was used to convert the file(s)).
For those who this bug effected, you can remove the directory entry
by rezipping the files using the following addition to the command
line for the Create Command of ZIP files:
-xS_S/

II. Auntie Sysops Beware When Updating the DIR
There are two cautions that Auntie Sysops should be aware of when
updating the BBS DIR file. First, the format of the directory
entries used by Auntie was changed. If you're using one of the older
versions of Auntie that doesn't have commas in the FILE SIZE entries
in the directory, you will need to either use the user defined dir
type, or use the predefined TBBS type.
The current internal support for an Auntie DIR has been modified to
work properly with the new directory format (that includes commas in
the file size field).
Since the internal support for TBBS can change in the future (if the
TBBS directory format changes), it is suggested that you use the user
defined bbs type to support older versions of Auntie. The following
settings are correct for versions of Auntie prior to the addition of
commas in the file size field:
Filename Length: 12
Filename Start Column: 1
Size Length: 7
Size Start Column: 14
Right Justify: Yes
Use Commas: No
------------------------------
Secondly,
Auntie Sysops who use ShapeShifter to modify the main DIR file should
be aware that Auntie's history file is dependent on the file
extension as well as the name. If you wish to keep the history
(number of downloads) for the converted files you must run one of
Wes's utilities to update the history file (after the DIR has been
modified). Specifically, you need to run RESIZDIR to fix the history
file.

Optionally, my Turbo SNR utility (v2.0+) can be used as a command executed
after creating an archive that allows you to directly modify
FILEHIST.RND. To use Turbo SNR for this task you would add the
following command line to the field 'Command to execute after
creating an archive with this archiver' (specific to each archiver):
snr -s "{%F*}[^ ]??=\g0%E" -r -a- FILEHIST.RND
